Girls Camp March 2008

Two foot glassy waves, beautiful sunny weather and forty keen surfer girls gathered in Raglan for the weekend - CS Summer Camp 2008 was awesome!

World class surf coach Deane Hishon led the intermediate and advanced girls through some invaluable tips and pointers to blow up in the water. The beginner girls were quick to pick up the basic techniques outlined by Hayley and were all keen to learn how to master the perfect duckdive. Equipped with fluoro pink arm bands, the girls hit the beach and it was lucky that the catering was so good that the girls were lured out of the water for a short time to eat lunch.

On Saturday night the girls split into their five dormitory groups and proudly busted out their brightly coloured plastic flower necklaces for the teams challenge. I cant remember who won but it was fiercely competitive! As it cooled off for the evening the girls hunted down their sleeping bags and got comfy for the open air premier of Hawaiian shark attack victim Bethany Hamilton’s DVD “Heart of a Soul Surfer”. What an inspirational testimony and as quoted from the DVD “she surfs better than most girls with two arms”.

The combination of surf, weather and people was such an answer to prayer - big thanks to all the leaders who made the weekend happen and to all the grommets for getting amongst it!
