Easter Taras Surf Fest 2007
Over 180 people gathered for the annual Taranaki Jesus Easter Surf Fest held at the Oakura Beach Campground – 5th to the 9th of April.
The weather proved hot and sunny while the surf made many stoked enabling a taste of varying surf conditions along the Taranaki coastline. Yes it pumped, yes it was good and for those who searched – they were rewarded.
Taranaki Christian Surfers (hosts), organised a skate competition, bouncy boxing, bands, a table tennis challenge and learn to surf. Guest Speaker Andrew Carruthers from Australia (Christian Surfers International), spoke inspiring words concerning Elijah and the Ravens (relating this to surfing - including some great humour) and challenged all to step out in faith and in fine form finished with a hot-cross bun communion. This was complemented by folks from the wider community attending and absorbing the opportunity for some great teaching. An all day and night café supplied hot and cold drinks, munchies and made for great conversation.
The event celebrated 11 years for the Surf Fest held in Oakura, it saw crews from all over N.Z attend and as far away as Wellington and Auckland. A significant increase was seen in the number of surfing families at the event too.
An on-site skate ramp provided by Remain Industries kept the entertainment charging along with decisive thrills and spills. A mix of ages and experience showed expert skill on the ramp as in the water. There was no time to be bored and no reason to not utilise all on offer and what made for an action packed, fun filled and challenging weekend.
Thank you to Taranaki Christian Surfers, Christian Surfers N.Z, all financial supporters and sponsors, all leaders for looking after their local crew and mostly to our awesome God whom once again provided for us and whom Blessed abundantly.
