Brazil International Conference

Over 22 countries, 200 delegates and 5 languages – what a conference! The next to be held in South Africa 2008 – can’t wait! Who’s keen to surf J-Bay, eat the local cuisine and learn some Africans? Start fundraising and saving now as we are aiming to take an even bigger team. Each of the team that went to Brazil is keen to see lots of leaders go to the next conference. In fact we would love to see at least one leader representing each local group/mission from around N.Z at future conferences. Marc, Sophia, Alan, Glen, Zach, Ali, Chris and Foz this time round represented Kiwi land and were stoked to do so – thanks guys for your efforts to help make it all happen.

In Brazil the conference focused on dots! Ay? Dots? We had a huge world map placed in front of us and the challenge was to see how many green, red and yellow dots were out there? Green represented already established local groups, red – contacts in that area and yellow - potential contacts. It was exciting to see hundreds of dots placed all over the world map. We saw people add their names to certain places in the world where they believe God is calling them to. This was not taken lightly and the conference was extremely challenging as people seriously considered and reconsidered their calling. This fits in nicely with the vision for 2007/2008 that I believe N.Z is being called to step up to – the planting of more Christian Surfers Groups – we need to see already established groups praying for and making contact around our country. We need to think outside of our local groups. This is now named and known as “one click” as we seek to rotate “one click” around the N.Z map and plant CS groups in local surf communities. More to be revealed at National Conference. Exciting stuff internationally and nationally!

The conference was held in a beautiful eco resort with a river mouth surf break 200 meters from the resort. The surf was o.k while we were there and enough to have fun on but with huge potential as Brazil has so much coast line to offer. Locals were friendly, the plant life incredible and the heart of the conference totally anointed. People did business with the Boss, prayers were plentiful and the unity, comradery, partnering and connection right on. Thank you for all your prayers and support.

We had different countries share their year through promo DVDs, songs, acts and dance, guest speakers deliver the word in a powerful way and Latin American worship bands busting out the sounds – man can they play! The testimonies that came out as to what is happening around the world were mind blowing and where the Boss is taking CS for the future is great! N.Z performed a Haka and put out a challenge to the rest of the nations to continue to stay close to God and not to give up on Christian Sufers. We have a lot to offer the rest of the world and could potentially send and receive a lot more people in the future. There was also a definite calling to see the Asian South Pacific Region more unified and a distinct need to have in- place the ability to send and receive people who would be released into ministry by CS. We had some great meetings and excellent seminars/workshops to help this happen. It was exciting to see local CS groups going into some stricken areas/poorer communities and serving the local people through education, building projects, surf lessons and building relationships. It was also exciting to see a snippet of Walking on Water’s new film soon to be released – and included is our buddy Tom Curren. Keep your eyes on Walking on Water.

A highlight was the city of Rio, visiting “Christ the Redeemer Statue” and an eye opener seeing the contrast in living conditions in such a vast city. Brazil has about 180,000,000 people and abut 1% of them surf. The beaches and islands were beautiful, waters warm and food amazing. There are lots of different nationalities there, including a mix of Japanese, German, Dutch, Africans, Indian, Portuguese and many other South American Nationalities.

It was also a privilege to attend the launch of the new surfers bible which is written in Portuguese and to meet a couple of top Brazilian Surfers.

Thank you so much for your support for such a neat opportunity to attend with a great team to represent to the rest of the world what N.Z has to offer.
