What happens when you cram 20 frothing girl grommets into a batch at Whangamata for a surf camp? You have the best weekend, make loads of new friends, eat way too much food and surf your brains out!
Girls flocked from Auckland, Raglan, Waihi, Hot water Beach and Whitianga for the 2006 Christian Surfers girls camp. The camp was organised by Raglan and North Shore Christian Surfers catered for both beginner and more experienced surfers of all ages.
On Saturday morning the girls rocked up to the beach to find 1-2ft of north east windswell - everyone was pumped considering the forecast was for total flatness. The more experienced girls headed straight out and the novice girls had a quick surf lesson on the beach before hitting the waves. Some of the girls braved it in spring suits but it was definitely steamer weather – nothing that a few hot chocolates couldn’t fix! Before going out again for the afternoon session all of the girls listened in for some tricks and tips to improve their surfing performance.
Big thanks to Backdoor Surf Shop who sponsored the camp with some cool spot prizes and stickers galore.
