RPM EUPHORIA POLAR JAM - THE REVIEW
Over the weekend of the 6th & 7th August Christian Surfers NZ ran the RPM Euphoria Polar Jam surf & snow competition. Competitors traveled from as far as Auckland to Dunedin to take on the southern playground of Kaikoura, were the mountains meet the sea.
After a chilly Saturday morning with a few last minute changes to the slope style setup, the sun came out and things were starting to soften up for an awesome day. Competitors were not holding back as Seth Piercey competing as an individual, tested out the kicker with a huge rodeo to set the standard. Teams Do the Dew and Board Silly came through with huge rail and kicker combinations to make it through to the final. Mike Smith and James Mitchell both competing in the Individuals put it all the line by landing tricks they had never pulled before.
Thanks to all the prayers from the Christian surfers crew, a solid easterly swell popped up on Sunday morning, providing competitors with ripable long sweeping rights at Mangamaunu. The stand out surfers of the day were Felix Dickson of Dunedin competing as an Individual and Zennor Wernham from Raglan competing in the Teams.
The weekend was a lot of fun and enjoyed by all, there were so many prizes that if you didn't get one you must have been hiding in the bushes. In the end it was the multi talented James Mitchell of Dunedin who took out the overall title of RPM Euphoria Polar Jam champion for 2005.
